If
I was to open my memory box and peer inside, my
memory about Pekingese dogs would have to be when
I married my husband. His family has always been
a Pekingese family. He once told me that as long
as he can remember ,his life has never been without
a Peke or two. When we started our life together,
our children were the centre of attention. We have
four beautiful daughters age 23,21,16 and 9. I am
a housewife and my husband is a Police Colonel of
the Royal Thai Police. He is now serving as a Deputy
Commander of Special Branch and has served as the
President of the Kennel Club of Thailand (two terms). For
15 years we led our life without dogs. Our love
affair with dogs started again when my husband purchased
a bulldog from the U.S.A. and his activities showing
the bulldog was a great success ,He became the Top
Bulldog in Thailand .Later my husband served as
the President of The Kennel Club of Thailand ; his
activity showing dogs has lessened.
Our
love affair with the Pekingese started again when
our friend gave us a handsome Peke. After three
months we decided that “ Tony” needed a friend,so
we searched for the best Peke and again with our
friend’s help we found “Am,Can,Ch.Windemere’s Absolutely
Awesome” from Joy Thoms. My husband is the one who
has been actively showing dogs for the past years.
Dog show in Thailand take place at big shopping
malls that have convention halls and are fully air
conditioned. My motto on dog shows was “He Shows..I
Shop” From time to time I would peek in and say
hello to him and then dissapear again. The turning
point of my showing dogs was when my husband showed
“Awesome” we did not know how to show Pekingese
let alone how to groom him properly. To my husband’s
point of view he thought that every dogs are all
the same, you put the lead on and you get into the
ring and then you get out with the ribbon.Like with
his Bulldogs he gets into the ring with a little
piece of cloth to wipe his mouth, well with the
Pekingese instead of a piece of cloth it’s going
to be a small brush. Boy!! He was wrong as he stepped
in to the ring it was Mrs.Geogre J.Wanner who came
to judge in Thailand. The first step was easy ..walk
with “Awesome” then put him on the table ..walk
again..a piece of cake!! But when he posed him on
the ground, fluffed the ear fringes, brushed the
topskull wow!!”Awesome had a bad hair day! Of cause
he got the ribbon but that was the last time my
husband showed Pekingese.
I
was convinced by our friend to show”Awesome” Up
to that time I have never shown dogs before,I had
no idea what dog shows are all about.I did not even
know how to groom him properly, and again with the
help of our friends I learnt the art of Pekingese
grooming.I started to show ‘Awesome” until he finnished
the Thai Champion. Then we began to look for another
Pekingese. It was our luck that a friend of mine
introduced me to Mr.David C. Fitzpatrick in PA U.S.A..
He sent us pictures of “ Pequest Winston” Winston’s
parents were Ch.Lakshimi Valentino of Jo-Li and
Pequest Khunyin. We feel in love with him immediately
and purchased him from David. In order to show him
correctly I spent a great deal of time on video
tape such as Wesminster I watched David show Ch.Lakshimi
Valentino of Jo-Li so many times that I lost count. Then
I started to show Winston. He is such an exceptional
dog , a dog that is able to walk and talk ..he has
a charisma that sets himself apart with an extra
something ..he know how to work the judges also.
As I recalled once we were in the line up for the
BIS trophy,Winston has been walked ,exammined ,touched
and walked again ..at last the judge had a final
look before he picked the BIS suddenly Winston felt
that he needed to tell the judge something like
Hey! This lady is mine!! So he aruptly peed on my
lap and he looked through the judge eyes and pose
by himself without me touching him. The judge laughed
and of cause we got out of the ring with the BIS
trophy. Winston became Top dog,Top Toy,Top Pekingese
1999 and 2000.He now holds the title of Am,Asian
Ch.Thai Grand Ch.Pequest Winston.
David
and I became good friends,he was a fountain of information,a
wealth of knowledge and was always a welcome source
of encouragement. He was willing to share his experties
in grooming and presenting dogs to judges. I purchased
another dog from David “ Pequest King Tut” .King
Tut’s parents were Salilyn’s Social Status and Hope
Sherpa. I learnt that each dog has individual characteristics
“King Tut” carried himself with pride,is well mannered,
polite , a perfect gentleman ,he is the King of
all that makes him interesting and a pleasure to
show. Now he holds the title of Am,Asian.Ch.Thai
Grand Ch. Pequest King Tut and he became Top Dog
,Top Toy ,Top Pekingese 2001 and Top Toy,Top Pekingese
and # Two Dog 2002. Both “Winston’ and “King Tut”
stayed at the top during their entire careers winning
under some of the most prestigious judges such as
Mr. Terry Stacy,Mrs.Pamela Cross Stern,M.r Eugene
Blake, Mrs.Martha Almos Ollivier,Mr. Joe Tacker,Dr.
Evereet K. Mincey and many more. Later David introduced
me to Mrs.Elizabeth Tilley as we looked for a female
dog and a Briarcourt bloodline.Betty was kind enough
to let me have Th.Ch.Pleiku Marla Gable and another
outstanding dog from her. His name is Am,Can,Asian,Th.Ch
Pleiku Classic Gold. “Tommy” is a happy dog he is
easy to show and is very friendly with everyone
on the ring ,he loves people talking to him and
you can’t resist but to cuddle him. Marla she is
a tomboy of the house, never afraid of anything,
Awesome retired and lives happily in the kennel
with his friends,we call him Mr. Foo as when we
cuddle him too long he will get annoyed and make
a noise “foo foo” to stop us.
In
addition, I also have very good relationships with
breeders from England.Miss Winniefred Mee is a wonderful
friend who has vast knowledge of Pekingese. I purchased
Th.Ch.Miyazakis Morning glory and Calaharee’s Charmer’s
Gold of Pekehuis from her .We decided to bred Calaharee
Charmer gold of Pekehuis with Ch.Tenling Golder
Arrow of Pekehuis and she gave birth
to an outstanding male and two females. They are
extrodinary dogs. Winnie is an exceptional person
who really cares. When our puppies were born she
telephoned me and gave me a lot of advice on how
to take care of the mother and the puppies. She
understood my panic as I am a novice. One of the
questions that put a smile on my face was : Is it
necessary to burp the puppies after they finish
their milk? Winnie just laughed and laughed .She
told me that she loved my question very much and
she will have to tell her friends about this. Our
first litter from Winnie became Th.Ch .Peking Palace
Me and MyArrow,Th.Ch.Peking Palace President’s Girl.
Unfortunately the other female doesn’t like to show
as she preferrs to stay home and enjoy playing with
her friends. I developed my strong line from the
United States ,England and last but not least from
Denmark .I purchased another strong line from Mrs.
Marie Petersen, Danish,Swedish,International Ch.Kisci
Lucky Grandiosa. With our restricted number we bred
on a limited basis as I intended to keep all of
my puppies.I also bred Am,Asian Ch.Thai Grand Ch.Pequest
Winston with Calaharee Charmer’s Gold of Pekehuis
to have a wonderful male and female, Th.Ch.Peking
Palace New Kid In Town and Th.Ch. Peking Palace
La Vie En Rose. Later I bred Am.Asian Ch.Thai Grand
Ch.Pequest King Tut with Th. Ch.LaVie En Rose and
have an outstanding female, Th.Ch. Peking Palace
Wind Of The Nile. She recieved the Best Puppy in
Show .Our last litter was Th.Ch. Peking Palace Lord
of The Nile. out of Am.Asian Ch.Thai Grand Ch.Pequest
King Tut and Th.Ch. Peking Palace President’s Girl.
He became an amazing dog as he won Best Baby in
Show and later he won Best Puppy In Show and became
Th.Ch.Lord of The Nile.
In
conclusion the Kennel Club of Thailand are FCI affiliated. Our
system is different from the AKC system. We divide
the dogs into 10 groups. Some of toy dogs go to
group 3 Terrier such as Yorkshier Terrier;and Pom
goes to group 5 Spitz and Primitive dogs. We have
Lhasa Apso,Boston Terrier,French Bulldog on Group
9 Companion and Toy.It is a great opportunity to
have a chance to show dogs under judges from all
over the world such as the U.S.A.,Canada,Germany,Australia
,South Africa and many many more.We had a chance
to exchange many new knowledge, experiences and
a great chance to develop new friendships.
Peking Palace started four years ago and I look
forward to the future in this facinating hobby ,sport
and most of all passion .
